TCSG Faculty Early Alert & TargetX
TCSG's Faculty Early Alert process uses real-time alerts in TargetX for structured advising and intervention tracking.
HOW IT WORK
Faculty Early Alert (TCSG Early Alert Management System) is a web-based, collaborative tool that helps identify students at risk of dropping out and enables faculty to submit alerts before students withdraw or fail.
TargetX is the institutional platform TCSG uses to manage student success, advising, and retention. Faculty Early Alerts in TargetX enable instructors to quickly identify students with academic or behavioral issues, prompting advisors to take appropriate action.
FACULTY EARLY ALERT FLOW
1. Faculty monitor students for early warning signs (e.g., declining grades, attendance issues, or decreased engagement).
2. Faculty submits an alert in Faculty Early Alert, which can be linked to or mirrored into TargetX's Faculty Early Alerts module.
3. In TargetX, faculty can:
a. View their current term roster.
b. Create and submit Alerts and Kudos for students.
c. Add comments and share them with advisors.
d. Track previous alerts and kudos for each student.
4. Student Retention staff in TargetX's Student Success Center for Advising tab:
a. View student alerts/kudos.
b. Respond, close alerts, and notify faculty.
c. Initiate interventions (e.g., tutoring, counseling, academic planning).
BEST PRACTICES
1. Act early: The first few weeks of a term are critical for intervention success.
2. Use both systems: Faculty Early Alert is real-time monitoring, TargetX for formal advising and documentation.
3. Follow up: Ensure retention staff respond promptly to alerts to maximize impact.
In short, TCSG faculty use the Early Alert System to detect at-risk students and TargetX to formally document and manage early alerts, ensuring timely retention staff intervention and improved retention.
